An entry way is the first thing guests see when they walk into your home. But it is an easily neglected space for families that don't enter through the formal front door living area due to a garage entry or back door. Without spending a fortune, my clients wanted to refresh their entry way to make it more inviting to guests and also to better reflect who they are as a family. They recently purchased this rug that didn't work out in another space in their home so we decided to work with it in the entry instead.
They also have a stunning antique gold oval mirror that they wanted to incorporate into the space.
Based on these two must-keep items, here's the mood board I put together to give them an idea of how the space could feel:
Let's start with the before images of the space:
The first issue that needed to be addressed were the 1980's sconces. The couple hated them and they were dated and dingy and did not give off the vibe they were wanting. Here's a close up of the old ones:
I sourced these sconces to replace the 80's (or are they 70's??) ones they had. The lucite and hammered gold add a touch of elegance and modernity to the space. They also were under $100 each and so they were a STEAL.
The vintage hutch desk they already had fit perfectly in the space but was too high to fit the mirror they wanted to use over it. Finding a piece in an affordable price range that would fit in the exact dimensions of that alcove proved to be a challenge. I did want to find something wood if possible to keep things warm and inviting. Ultimately we found this adorable vintage dresser:
The size was great and the wood tones worked well with the existing hardwoods but the knobs needed a little updating. Especially with the sconces that we had already selected.
And now she's looking a little more updated:
So for under $300 we have a new entry piece.
We are just needing a few finishing touches to complete the space. The sconces need to be lowered because the old ones were hung too high. And we need to find a beautiful glass vessel for some pretty branches or flowers to help beef up the height of the small dresser so that the scale of the piece works better with the mirror. It's fun to see how the space has taken shape on a modest budget and we are so close!
