I'm a big advocate of mixing pillows for a collected look. I think it adds such visual interest to a space and prevents spaces from feeling over-decorated. To get the gist of what I'm talking about, here are a few images that inspire me:

Achieving the right mix is easier said than done and is something that I have been working on for a while in our own home. I have a couple of theories about why it isn't the easiest thing to do.
Reason 1: In most cases to curate these pillows correctly, it isn't like you can just go to one store and come home with everything you need.
Reason 2: I don't know if you have experienced sticker shock on pillow prices these days but I sure have! I've been in dozens of stores where I pick up a pillow and think, oh that's cute, only to look at price tag and it says something like $175! When that happens, I like to tell myself it is because I have expensive taste but in reality it has become commonplace to find exorbitantly priced pillows.
Reason 3: It is hard to commit to buying one pillow at a time when you don't know what the other ones are going to look like. This was the hardest thing to me. I'd find a pillow that I'd really like but then I'd find two others that looked GREAT together but horrible with the other one that I'd already purchased. So then I got gun-shy about pulling the trigger on purchasing pillows.
Here's a pic of a few pillows in our living room. Most of these came from Home Goods or Etsy and of course now that the weather is warmer and sunnier, I already want to change things up to something a little brighter for the spring!
All this said, the good news is that I wanted to share my recent favorite source for unique, one of a kind pillows at a price point that is actually affordable! Collectiv Co sources vintage textiles to make their pillows. In addition to the pillows being affordable and super cool, their color palettes are varied enough that I feel like they could mix right in with just about any space and already existing pillow mix!
The price varies by pillow but most are between $50-$75 each. The only downside I've found is that because they are vintage textiles, they tend to sell out. If you get on their email list, you can get updates when they have new products and you can snag your favorites fast!
